AIKEN, S.C. – Benedict managed just eight hits in two games as the Lady Tigers dropped a doubleheader to USC Aiken in a non-conference softball doubleheader on Saturday.
USC Aiken won the first game 16-3 in five innings, then held Benedict to three hits in a 3-0 shutout in the second game.
Benedict falls to 0-4 on the season. USC Aiken goes to 3-1.
The Lady Tigers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top half of the first inning of the first contest.
Erika Dargan singled and
Zanila Booker reached on an error.
Starkeira Daniel brought them both home with a double. The Lady Pacers scored five runs in the bottom of the first, then added two more runs in the second and third innings before exploding for seven runs in the fourth for a 16-2 lead. The Lady Tigers scored another run in the fifth when
Tandreanna Conyers reached on an error and Booker later drove her home with a single.
In the second game, USC Aiken pitcher Caroline Cockrell held Benedict to three hits while striking out 14.
Benedict will play its home opener on Wednesday against Johnson C. Smith, with the first game starting at 1 p.m.
