YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The Benedict College softball team fought the nation's 18
th-ranked softball team to a near standstill, falling 1-0 to Young Harris College on Saturday in the YHC Tournament.
In Benedict's second game, Georgia College took a 17-0 victory in five innings.
The Lady Tigers fall to 6-6 on the season.
Against Young Harris, the Lady Tigers held the Mountain Lions to seven hits. The only run of the game came on a solo home run in the fifth inning by Young Harris' Grace Botti. Benedict had one hit, coming from
Cherica Pye on a leadoff infield single in the third inning.
Marshallnae Bell held the 18
th-ranked Mountain Lions to seven hits, walked just one and struck out two. Young Harris' Nikkie Kovalsky struck out 13.
Against Georgia College, Benedict was held to just two hits and committed three errors.
Taylor Roberts and
Amari Lawson collected Benedict's hits.
Georgia College jumped out with seven runs in the first inning, then added another seven runs in the third inning.
The Lady Tigers are back in action Thursday when they travel to take on Fayetteville State. The next home game is March 12 against Edward Waters.
