COLUMBIA, S.C. – After a long day at Tiger Field, the Benedict Tigers baseball team walked away with a split of a doubleheader against the Clark Atlanta Panthers. Benedict took the first game 8-5, while the Panthers won the second game in a long, grueling 13-inning battle, by a score of 8-6.
In the first game, Myles Snype stole the show. He would open up the day's scoring with a three-run home run to right field. He later hit a screaming two-run single into center field that put the Tigers up 5-0. In the fourth inning, Snype again hit a single to first base that would drive in another Tiger run. In the end, Snype finished going 3-for-4 with a home run, two singles, one run scored, and six RBIs. Ricardo Pagan picked up the win, his second of the year, while Anthony Nettles took the loss, his fourth of the season.
In the second game, Benedict got off to an early lead, going up 6-2 heading into the fifth inning. Snype added to his hot day with an RBI double in the first inning. Bradon O'Connor had an RBI double in the second inning, and Anthony Johnson stole home to make it 5-1 in the third inning.
However, in the sixth inning, Clark Atlanta scored four runs, including one off an RBI double by Ceontae Brandon, tying the game. The game would stay deadlocked all the way up until the top of the 13th inning, when McKaleb Harlemon reached on a fielding error that allowed both Demoni Bradley and Joshua Oliver to score, putting the Panthers up 8-6. Cedon Langguth would pick up the victory for the Panthers, his second on the year, while Joey Macaluso earned his first loss of the season. Clark Atlanta's Jordan Johnson also picked up his second save of the year in the Panthers' winning effort.
Benedict moves to 12-11 overall and 7-5 in the SIAC. Clark Atlanta moves to 9-18 overall and 6-8 in the SIAC.
The series wraps up Monday afternoon at Tiger Field with another doubleheader between Benedict and Clark Atlanta. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 1 p.m.
