ALBANY, Ga. – The Benedict College softball team defeated Fort Valley State 3-1 before falling to Tuskegee 5-0 and knocking the Lady Tigers out of the SIAC Softball Championship on Friday at Gordon Sports Complex.
The Lady Tigers end the 2019 season with a 22-19 record.
Against Fort Valley State, the Lady Wildcats scored first with a single run in the first inning. Benedict tied the game in the third inning when
Amari Lawson led off with a single, then later came home on a single by
Zanila Booker. The Lady Tigers took the lead in the fourth inning when
Erika Dargan led off with a double and came home on a groundout by
Ericka Young.
Benedict added an insurance run in the fifth inning as Lawson led off the inning with a single.
Tandreanna Conyers singled, and
Taylor Roberts walked to load the bases with no outs. Booker drove in a run on a groundout.
Marshallnae Bell picked up the pitching victory, going all seven innings and holding Fort Valley State to five hits.
Against Tuskegee, Benedict was held to five hits. The Golden Tigers had a 2-0 lead after the first two innings, but then scored three runs on one hit and two Benedict errors in the third inning to take a 5-0 lead.
