ORANGEBURG, S.C. -- The Benedict College volleyball team dropped a 3-2 decision on Tuesday evening, as Claflin rallied from a 2-0 deficit to secure the victory.
Claflin (1-3) won the match 23-25, 22-25, 25-20, 26-24, 15-12 to snag their first win of the season. Benedict is now 4-4.
Adrionna Washington led the Lady Tigers with a season-high 25 kills and 67 total attacks. V'Aira Harris added 18 kills and a season-high 18 digs. Ashleigh Reeves recorded a season-high 48 assists.
Benedict was down 23-20 before scoring five consecutive points to secure the first set. The Lady Tigers were up 24-19 in the second set before the Panthers scored three straight points to make it 24-22. Benedict would then win the set on a kill by Daija Walton.
In the third set, the score was knotted up at 12-12 before the Panthers went on an 8-2 run to lead them to a third set victory. During the fourth set, Benedict was winning 14-10 before Claflin would eventually tie the set at 15 all. The Panthers eventually prevailed to win the set.
In the fifth set, the Lady Tigers found themselves trailing 9-4 before scoring five of the next six points to close the gap to 10-9. Claflin would then score four of the next five points to increase their lead to 14-10. The Lady Tigers fought back scoring two consecutive points, but it was not enough as the Lady Panthers won the set and the match.
Benedict will participate in the SIAC Volleyball Crossover Tournament starting this Thursday at 8 a.m in Albany, Ga.
