COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College Lady Tigers outscored the Claflin Lady Panthers 57-27 in the second half in their 83-53 non-conference women's basketball victory on Thursday night.
Benedict improves to 17-2 overall with their 12th straight victory, while Claflin falls to 0-18.
Wykira Johnson-Kelly led the Lady Tigers with 19 points, while shooting a perfect 8-for-8 from the free-throw line.
Shanassia White had a great game with 13 points, 14 rebounds, and four assists, while shooting a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc.
Camryn Bostick contributed with eight points, 12 rebounds, and four blocks.
A pair of 3-pointers by
Ayanna Armstead and another by
Amaya Ashby contributed to an 11-0 run that allowed Benedict to take a 16-6 advantage with 1:34 left in the first quarter. The Lady Tigers held a 19-11 lead at the end of the first quarter.
A 10-2 run by Claflin tied things up at 21-21 with four minutes remaining until the break. A layup by the Lady Panthers as time expired tied the game at 26 heading into halftime.
The Lady Tigers would get back on track in the third, outscoring Claflin 29-9. Johnson-Kelly and
Ay'Anna Bey scored 28 of their 30 points in the second half, helping to extend the lead and secure the victory.
Benedict's bench outscored Claflin 52-15, including 21-0 in the third quarter.
Benedict will travel to Savannah State on Saturday for a 1 p.m. SIAC contest.
