ALBANY, Ga. – A strong performance from
Tajh Green helped lead the Benedict College Tigers past Albany State University, 65-58, on Saturday afternoon in a SIAC men's basketball game.
Benedict improves to 12-15 overall and 8-10 in the SIAC. Albany State falls to 15-12 overall and 12-6 in the SIAC.
Green led the way for the Tigers, scoring a season-high 26 points and bringing down a season-high 13 rebounds.
Deon Joyner added nine points and seven rebounds to the contest.
Benedict pulled out to an early 15-5 lead seven minutes into the first half. After Albany State closed the gap to 22-17 with seven minutes left until the break, the Tigers went on an 11-0 run to extend their lead to 16 points.
Benedict extended their lead to a game-high 20 points to begin the second half. In the next 11 minutes, Albany State outscored the Tigers, 24-12, to close the gap to 49-41 with 8:45 left in the game.
The Golden Rams closed within five points, 60-55 with 44 seconds remaining, but Benedict made five-of-six free throws down the stretch to secure the win.
Benedict held a 32-14 advantage in the paint.
Benedict will travel to play their final regular season game against Paine College on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in Augusta, Ga.
