COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College baseball team won two out of three against Glenville State University this weekend.
Benedict improves to 6-5 overall, while Glenville State falls to 10-6. Benedict swept Saturday's doubleheader 9-6 and 3-0. Glenville State took Sunday's third game 10-6.
Anthony Johnson went 6-for-12 with five runs batted in over the three games.
Ahmad Ali went 4-for-10 with four RBIs.
Christian Moore threw a shutout in the second game, only giving up three hits and striking out six in the ballgame.
In the first game, Benedict fell behind 5-0 after an inning and a half. Ali doubled home
Christopher Floyd to close the gap to 5-2 in the bottom of the third. The Tigers then put up a seven-run fourth inning to take a 9-5 lead. They would never look back, winning 9-6.
Moore was the star of the second game, holding Glenville State to no runs through seven innings of work. One run in the first inning and two in the third was all Benedict needed to secure a 3-0 victory.
Glenville State took a 4-0 lead after three and a half innings in the third game of the three-game series. The Tigers scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth to close the gap to 4-2. After Glenville State added one run, Johnson hit a three-run home run to tie the game at 6-6 after seven innings.
A four-run eighth inning for Glenville State allowed the Pioneers to take a 10-6 lead. They would hold on for the 10-6 victory.
Benedict will host Kentucky State University on Saturday for a noon doubleheader in their first conference showdown.
