JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Benedict College women's volleyball team wrapped up the regular season with a hard-fought 3-0 loss to Edward Waters on Thursday.
Edward Waters won 29-27, 25-23, 25-22. Benedict falls to 18-9 overall, while Edward Waters is 24-7.
Daija Walton led Benedict with nine kills.
Ashleigh Reeves had 22 assists and a team-high 14 digs.
Benedict had an early lead in the first set, leading 11-4. Edward Waters rallied to take a 22-20 lead. Benedict scored the next three points for a 23-22 lead. A kill by Walton gave Benedict set point, 24-23, but Edward Waters scored a kill to tie the set. Benedict again had set point, 25-24, but Edward Waters tied it again on a kill. Benedict had another chance with a 27-26 lead, but Edward Waters closed out the set with three consecutive kills.
The second set was also close. The score was tied 23-23 after a kill by
Cana Smith, but Edward Waters closed out the set with a pair of kills.
The third set was another close one. The Lady Tigers had an 18-17 lead before Edward Waters scored four points in a row. Benedict rallied to tie the score at 22 after a kill by
Brikyia Benjamin. Edward Waters scored the final two points to wrap up the match.
Benedict will compete in the SIAC Tournament beginning Monday at the Rock Hill Sports & Event Center in Rock Hill, S.C. The SIAC will announce tournament seedings and match times on Sunday.
