COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College Lady Tigers held Central State to 25 percent shooting, grabbed a season-high 60 rebounds and placed four players in double figures as they cruised to a dominating 88-55 victory on Thursday night in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
Ayanna Armstead led the Lady Tigers with 17 points, while
Camryn Bostick added 16 points and gabbed 11 rebounds for a double-double.
Ay'Anna Bey also had a double-double with 14 points and a season-high 19 rebounds. Bey also had five blocked shots and four steals.
Jasmine Gholson chipped in with 11 points, hitting three 3-pointers.
The Lady Tigers improved to 9-4 overall and 5-0 in the SIAC. Central State falls to 1-6 overall and 0-4 in the SIAC.
Gholson opened the game with a 3-pointer and the Lady Tigers had a 16-point lead, 26-10, at the end of the first quarter. The lead grew to 49-23 at the half, and Benedict had as much as a 31-point lead in the third quarter before Central State trimmed the lead to 62-41 heading into the final quarter. Benedict grew the lead to as much as 37 points, 88-51, with 1:19 left to play.
The Lady Tigers return to action on Saturday with a 1 p.m. contest against Kentucky State.
Benedict will be offering free Covid-19 vaccinations, including booster shots, at the arena on Saturday.
