COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College Lady Tigers outscored Kentucky State University 45-20 in the second half to rally past the Lady Thorobreds for a 68-53 SIAC victory on Saturday afternoon to close out their 2021 schedule.
Kentucky State had a 33-23 lead at the half and still had a 36-28 lead with 8:06 left in the third quarter when the Lady Tigers went on an 8-0 run to tie the game. After Kentucky State made a free throw, the Lady Tigers scored 13 unanswered points for a 49-37 lead and never trailed again.
Benedict took a 53-45 lead into the fourth quarter and held Kentucky State to just eight points in the final quarter to record their fourth straight victory and improve to 10-4 on the season and 6-0 in the SIAC. Kentucky State drops to 3-5 overall and 1-4 in the SIAC.
Wykira Johnson-Kelly led the Lady Tigers with 18 points, while
Ayanna Armstead added 16 points.
Ay'Anna Bey chipped in with 13 points, 11 coming in the second half.
Benedict is off for the Christmas break and will return to action on Jan. 2 with a road game against 14
th-ranked North Georgia. Benedict's next home game will be Jan. 8 against Edward Waters.
