JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Benedict Tigers outscored Edward Waters 19-2 during an early second-half run to rally from a 12-point deficit and take a 73-68 victory on Tuesday night.

Edward Waters had a 41-31 lead at the half, then added a layup to open the second half for a 12-point lead. Edward Waters had a 48-37 lead after a fast-break layup. Benedict scored the next 10 points to cut the lead to 48-47. Edward Waters hit a pair of free throws before the Tigers scored the next nine points, capped by a layup by Tyrese Mapp, for a 56-50 Benedict lead. Mapp's layup with 10:52 on the clock gave Benedict its first lead of the game, 52-50.

Edward Waters rallied to re-take the lead, 63-60, on a 3-pointer, but back-to-back baskets by Malachi McCoy and Timothy Bing Jr. gave the Tigers a 64-63 lead with 3:59 left to play. Edward Waters had a 66-65 lead with 2:42 remaining, but McCoy tipped in an offensive rebound to put Benedict back on top, and the Tigers never trailed again. Bing sealed the game by sinking three of four free-throws in the final 24 seconds.

Tajh Green led Benedict with 19 points and eight rebounds, while McCoy added 17 points and also pulled down eight rebounds. Bing scored 16 points and dished out five assists. Mapp chipped in 13 points.

Benedict improves to 5-3 on the season with its fourth straight win. Edward Waters falls to 5-5.

The Tigers are back in action on Saturday with a road trip to Miles.
