TUSKEGEE, Ala. – Tuskegee shot an opponent's season-best 47.3 percent and handed the 23
rd-ranked Benedict College Lady Tigers their third consecutive defeat with a 72-62 victory on Sunday afternoon.
After the two teams traded 3-pointers to open the game, Tuskegee took a 5-3 lead less than two minutes into the contest and never trailed. A
Shanassia White 3-pointer at the end of the first quarter cut the lead to 17-14. Tuskegee closed out the first half with a 13-5 run to take a 37-26 lead at the half.
Benedict, now 8-3, never got closer than eight points, and trailed by as much as 17 points, in the second half.
Tuskegee shot 26-of-55 (47.3 percent), their third game in a row shooting better than 45 percent against the Lady Tigers, who entered the series against Tuskegee as the top-ranked field goal percentage defense team in the country. The Lady Tigers shot 28.8 percent (19-of-66), their second-lowest output of the season.
Wykira Johnson-Kelly led the Lady Tigers with 19 points and a season-high 11 rebounds.
Ay'Anna Bey added 16 points and
Camryn Bostick added 11 points.
Ashiala Jackson led Tuskegee, now 12-1, with 21 points, while India Blakely added 17 points.
Benedict will play its final home game of the season on Wednesday against Savannah State at 6 p.m.
