COLUMBIA, S.C. – Benedict outscored Allen 25-1 in the second quarter and cruised to a 91-41 victory in a women's basketball game on Wednesday night in the John Hurst Adams Gymnasium.
Allen held an 18-17 lead after the first quarter, but
Ayanna Armstead opened the second quarter with a 3-pointer to give the Lady Tigers the lead and they never looked back. Allen sank one free throw with 9:26 left in the quarter to make it 23-19 and didn't score for the rest of the first half as the Lady Tigers took a 42-19 lead. Benedict opened the third quarter by scoring the first five points for a 47-19 lead.
Ay'Anna Bey led the Lady Tigers with 21 points and 15 rebounds.
Wykira Johnson-Kelly added a double-double with 12 points and 10 assists, while
Mahogany Randall scored 11 points and Armstead chipped in with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Shanassia White helped with seven rebounds and seven points as Benedict out-rebounded Allen 58-27.
Benedict, now 4-0 on the season, returns to action on Monday in their home opener against Kentucky State at 6 p.m.
