Box Score SAVANNAH, Ga. – The 24
th-ranked Benedict Lady Tigers erupted for 30 fourth-quarter points to take an 81-63 victory over Savannah State University on Thursday night.
Wykira Johnson-Kelly scored a season-high 24 points for the Lady Tigers, who improve to 5-0 on the season.
Ay'Anna Bey added 15 points, while
Shanaissa White chipped in 11 points and
Keondra Archie scored 10 points.
Savannah State was playing its season opener, and was led by Bria Gibbs with 14 points.
Benedict had a 15-14 lead after the first quarter and built as much as a 10-point lead, 31-21, in the second quarter before Savannah State cut the lead to 33-29 at the half. Savannah State cut the lead to 42-40 with 3:30 left in the third quarter before the Lady Tigers outscored Savannah State 9-2.
Ayanna Armstead hit a 3-pointer to start the final run, to make the score 51-42 heading into the final quarter.
Benedict used an 11-0 run early in the fourth quarter, capped off by a 3-pointer by Bey, to take a 69-49 lead, their largest lead of the game, with 4:41 left in the game.
The Lady Tigers travel to Fort Valley State for a Saturday afternoon contest, before returning home for a rematch against Fort Valley State on Sunday at 4 p.m. in their home opener.
