COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College Tigers remained unbeaten on the young season with an 80-65 victory over Tuskegee on Saturday afternoon in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
Benedict, now 3-0, got 20 points from
Tajh Green, while
Tyrese Mapp had a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Jerome Bivins added 12 points while
Timothy Bing Jr. chipped in with 10 points.
The first half was tight, with Tuskegee taking a 29-28 lead with 5:23 remaining. That's when the Tigers went on a 15-7 run to close out the first half.
Aboubacar Camara ended the first half with a steal and layup at the buzzer to give the Tigers a 43-35 lead.
Tuskegee, now 1-2, scored on a fast-break layup to make it 49-38 with 15:11 left in the game. Benedict went on another big run, outscoring the Golden Tigers 13-2 to push the lead to 20 points, 61-41, on a 3-pointer by Bivins.
Benedict dominated inside, outscoring Tuskegee 44-12 in the paint and out-rebounding the Golden Tigers 52-37. The Tigers held Tuskegee to 27.9 percent shooting (17-of-61).
Benedict's scheduled road game at Savannah State on Monday has been postponed. The Tigers are back in action on Thursday at Allen University at 7:30 p.m.
