ATLANTA –Clark Atlanta erupted for eight runs in the third inning on just one hit and went on to take a 14-6 victory over the Benedict College Tigers on Saturday afternoon.
The second game of the scheduled doubleheader was halted in the fourth inning due to darkness. The two teams will attempt to resume the game when Clark Atlanta comes to Columbia on April 21.
Benedict scored first when
Anthony Johnson hit a single to score
Bradon O'Connor. Clark Atlanta took the lead in the bottom of the first inning, scoring three runs with two outs. Benedict walked three batters and had three passed balls in the inning. The Panthers added two more runs in the second inning for a 5-1 lead, scoring on a squeeze bunt and a passed ball.
The Tigers cut the lead to 5-3 with two runs in the third inning.
Ryan Chesney and O'Connor hit back-to-back singles, and Johnson brought them both home with a single to left field. Johnson finished the day going 2-for-3 with three RBIs.
In the third inning, the Panthers loaded the bases on a hit batsman and a pair of walks. Another wild pitch scored one Clark Atlanta run, and another hit batsman pushed in another run. A Benedict error also allowed three runs to score.
Myquerris McGrier scored on an error in the fifth inning to make it 14-4. Benedict added two more runs in the sixth, scoring on a balk and a wild pitch.
Benedict's three pitchers combined for nine walks, one wild pitch and three hit batters.
The Tigers, now 1-3 on the season, will be back in action on Sunday, March 28 for their home opener against Mid-Atlantic University in a 1 p.m. doubleheader. Per SIAC guidelines, no fans will be allowed.
