FORT VALLEY, Ga. – The Benedict College men's volleyball team lost in their inaugural match, falling to Fort Valley State 3-0 on Friday night.
Fort Valley State won the match 25-15, 25-20, 25-18 to improve to 1-1 overall and 1-0 in the SIAC. Benedict falls to 0-1 overall and 0-1 in the SIAC.
Benjamin Attles led the Tigers with eight kills in his debut.
De'Andrae Taylor had four kills.
Ahijaa Sweeney had 17 assists, and Sweeney and
Clint Forbes had seven digs each.
The Wildcats jumped out to an 8-1 lead in the first set and the Tigers never could catch up. The Tigers scored four straight points early in the second set all off of Fort Valley State errors for a 7-3 lead. Benedict had a 15-12 lead after a kill by Attles, a service ace by Attles and two Fort Valley State errors. The Wildcats had a run of eight straight points to take a 21-16 lead and held on for the win. The Wildcats jumped out to an early lead in the third set, taking a 10-2 lead to start the set. Benedict cut the lead to 15-11 on a kill by Taylor, but the Wildcats scored four of the next five points for a 19-12 lead and held on for the win to sweep the match.
Benedict plays at Lees-McRae College next Friday.
