Keondra Archie hit a pair of free throws with five seconds left, and Clark Atlanta missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer as the Benedict College Lady Tigers defeated Clark Atlanta 65-62 in SIAC action on Saturday.
Wykira Johnson-Kelly and
Ay'Anna Bey scored 16 points each to lead the Lady Tigers, who improve to 14-6 overall and 8-2 in the SIAC.
Camryn Bostick chipped in 10 points. Clark Atlanta falls to 4-13 overall and 4-5 in the SIAC.
The game was a back-and-forth affair, with 12 lead changes and 12 ties. Neither team led by more than six points. Benedict had a 30-29 lead at the half and Clark Atlanta had a 48-46 lead heading into the fourth quarter. A 3-pointer by Johnson-Kelly gave Benedict the lead for good, 53-52 with 6:58 remaining. A layup by Johnson-Kelly gave Benedict its largest lead of the second half, 61-55, with 3:28 left to play.
The Lady Panthers cut the lead to 63-62 on a 3-pointer by Reagan Jackson with seven seconds left. Archie was immediately fouled and sank both free throws with five seconds left for the final points.
Benedict is back in action on Monday at Fort Valley State at 5:30 p.m.
