FAIRFIELD, Ala. – The Miles Golden Bears hit a 3-pointer with 3:54 left to break a tie game and went on to take a 69-66 victory over the Benedict Tigers in a SIAC men's basketball contest on Thursday night.
 
Benedict had a 41-35 lead in the second half before Miles went on a 20-7 run to take their largest lead of the second half, 55-48, with 9:44 remaining. A 3-pointer by 
Brandon Beidleman tied the contest at 55 with 7:50 on the clock, and the game was tight the rest of the way. Benedict's last lead came with 5:48 left when 
Brandon Smith hit a 3-pointer for a 60-58 lead.
 
Gob Gabriel and 
Tim Moore scored 14 points each to lead the Tigers.
 
Benedict falls to 4-5 overall and 2-3 in the SIAC. Miles improves to 7-3 overall and 3-2 in the SIAC.
 
The Tigers struggled at the free-throw line, connecting on seven of 17 attempts (41.2 percent).
 
Benedict has one more game before the holiday break. The Tigers will travel to take on Shaw in Raleigh on Monday. The Tigers return home on Jan. 2 to take on Spring Hill College at 7:30 p.m. in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
