COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Central State Lady Marauders jumped out to an early lead and held on for a 76-69 victory in a SIAC women's basketball contest on Saturday afternoon in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
Central State had a 15-9 lead at the end of the first quarter and had a 32-24 lead at the half. The Lady Marauders built their largest lead of the game, 55-38, with 2:55 remaining in the third quarter before the Lady Tigers cut the lead to 60-49 heading into the fourth quarter. The Lady Tigers were able to trim the lead to 73-66 with 2:17 left in the game, but couldn't get any closer.
Jasmine Gholson led the Lady Tigers with 17 points.
Taylor Christmas added 13 points, while
Shakera Duncan added 10 points and a team-high eight rebounds. The Lady Tigers fall to 2-6 overall and 0-3 in the SIAC with their sixth straight loss.
Kailyn Nash led Central State, now 2-4 overall and 2-1 in the SIAC, with 29 points.
Benedict is back in action on Monday, hosting Kentucky State at 5:30 p.m.
