Benedict Coach Berry, Kicker Tinoco To Participate In HBCU Legacy Bowl

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Two representatives from Benedict College will be participating in the inaugural 2022 HBCU Legacy Bowl, an all-star game showcasing the best NFL draft-eligible football players from Historically Black Colleges and Universities.

Senior kicker Rigoberto Tinoco was selected to play in the game. Benedict head coach Chennis Berry will serve as an assistant coach, coaching the offensive line. He will serve on the coaching staff of Florida A&M head coach Willie Simmons, who will be the offensive coach for Team Robinson, named after legendry Grambling State coach Eddie Robinson. Albany State head coach Gabe Giardina will serve as the defensive coach. South Carolina State head coach Buddy Pugh will serve as the defensive coach for Team Gaither, named after legendary Florida A&M University football coach Jake Gaither.

The HBCU Legacy Bowl, presented by the Black College Football Hall of Fame, is scheduled for Feb. 19 at Tulane University's Yulman Stadium in New Orleans, Louisiana. The game will bring together 100 of the top senior and draft-eligible football players from HBCUs. It will be broadcast live on NFL Network.

The HBCU Legacy Bowl is part of a week-long celebration of Black culture and history and will provide invaluable exposure for HBCU students. Among the events planned include a Career Fair and a halftime performance by the Grambling State Tiger Marching Band.

The HBCU Legacy Bowl founding partners include the National Football League, Pro Football Hall of Fame, Tulane University, Allstate Sugar Bowl, Patrick Mahomes and his 15 and the Mahomies Foundation, Riddell and Tulane University.
