COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College softball team dropped a doubleheader against cross-town rival Columbia International University on Saturday.
The Rams (5-3) took the first game 6-4, then scored a run in the bottom of the eighth inning to win the second game 8-7. Benedict falls to 4-4 on the season.
Taylor Wilson had a solo home run in the first game.
Chesney Miller drove in three runs.
In the second game, Benedict scored first in the first inning on an RBI single by
Olivia Townsend.
Taylor McNeal had an RBI single in the third as the Lady Tigers built a 3-1 lead. The Rams scored four runs in the third to take a 6-4 lead. The Lady Tigers grabbed a 7-6 lead in the sixth inning when they scored three runs. McNeal drew a bases-loaded walk and
Deyonce Lewis followed with a two-run double. Columbia International tied the game in the bottom of the seventh on a triple to force extra innings.
Benedict wasn't able to score in the top of the eighth. Columbia International had a sacrifice bunt and a single to drive in the winning run.
Benedict plays at Columbia College on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
