COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College Tigers closed out the 2021-22 regular season and celebrated Senior Day with a 71-59 victory over Allen University on Tuesday night in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
Tajh Green had 13 points, a team-high eight rebounds and two blocked shots in his final home game.
Malachi McCoy also scored 13 points, while
Calvin McCutcheon also chipped in 13 points.
The Tigers, now 20-6 on the season, opened the game with an ally-oop dunk from senior
NyQuan McCombs to Green, and the Tigers led from start to finish. Benedict built an early 11-point lead, 15-4, on a layup by
Tyrese Mapp. The Tigers built as much as a 20-point lead in the first half before taking a 48-32 advantage into halftime.
Allen, now 6-20, used a nine-point run to cut a 19-point lead to 10 points, the closest they would get in the second half, with 2:06 left to play.
The Tigers will next play in the SIAC Championship Tournament in Rock Hill, S.C. Benedict will be the second seed in the SIAC East Division and will have a bye until the quarterfinals and will play Thursday, March 3 at 4:45 p.m. against an opponent to be determined.
