COLUMBIA, S.C. – Lincoln University swept a doubleheader against the Benedict College baseball team in a non-conference doubleheader on Thursday afternoon at Tiger Field.
Lincoln won 16-1 in the first game, then took the second game 14-4 to improve to 4-6 on the season. Benedict falls to 0-9.
The Lions had a 2-1 lead heading into the fifth inning of the first game. Lincoln scored two runs in the top of the fifth, then put the game away with seven runs in the sixth and five more in the seventh. Lincoln had 14 hits and took advantage of 11 walks by six different Tiger pitchers. Four different Benedict players all had one hit, with
Jalen McDuffie driving home Benedict's only run with a single in the fourth inning.
Lincoln jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the second game, but Benedict cut the lead to 7-4 after four innings. The Lions scored seven runs in the final three innings and held the Tigers scoreless.
Bradon O'Connor went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, while McDuffie drove in Benedict's other two runs with a double.
The Tigers return to action on Saturday with a conference doubleheader against Tuskegee.
