COLUMBIA, S.C. – Belmont Abbey College spoiled Benedict College's men's volleyball home debut with a 3-0 victory on Friday night in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
The Crusaders defeated the Tigers 25-20, 25-18, 25-12 to improve to 6-2 on the season. Benedict falls to 0-5 in their inaugural season.
Belmont Abbey recorded 45 kills in the match and hit .444. The Tigers notched just 17 total kills.
Zion Beckford led the Tigers with five kills.
Terran Walkin had 11 assists.

Donovan Wilmott cut Belmont Abbey's lead to 21-19 in the first set, but the Crusaders scored the next three points. After a service error, the Crusaders closed out the set with a kill.
The second set was tied 9-9 before the Crusaders pulled away with five straight points. Benedict picked up two points on Belmont Abbey errors, but the Crusaders scored five of the next six points for a 19-12 lead. The Tigers cut the lead to 24-18, but Belmont Abbey clinched the set with a kill.
A six-point run and a five-point run gave the Crusaders a 16-5 lead in the third set. Benedict got within 20-11, but Belmont Abbey scored the next four points. After an Belmont Abbey error, the Crusaders closed out the match with a final kill.
Benedict will be back in action on Friday, Feb. 18, with a home match against Morehouse College.
