RALEIGH, N.C. – The Benedict College softball team swept a non-conference doubleheader from Saint Augustine's University on Wednesday.
The Lady Tigers shut out the Lady Falcons 15-0 in five innings in the first game, then used an eight-run fourth inning to take a 12-2 victory in five innings in the second game.
The Lady Tigers improve to 12-13. Saint Augustine's falls to 0-10.
In the first game,
T'Yannah Lake went 3-for-4 with three RBIs, getting a triple in the fifth inning.
Deyonce Lewis went 4-for-4 with four doubles, and drove in a pair of runs.
Olivia Townsend had a solo homer in the fourth inning. Benedict pounded out 18 hits, with 10 of those extra-base hits.
Townsend picked up the pitching win, allowing just three hits and struck out four.
In the second game,
Taylor McNeal went 3-for-3 with a three-run homer in the fourth inning. The Lady Tigers had a 2-0 lead after three innings, but then exploded for eight runs in the fourth inning, sending 12 batters to the plate.
Camilla Crooks earned the pitching win, going the distance and allowing three hits.
Benedict travels to Clark Atlanta for a three-game conference series this weekend.
