COLUMBIA, S.C. –
Ras Jesse Delancy recorded 11 kills to help lead the Benedict College Tigers to a 3-0 sweep over Lees-McRae College in a non-conference men's volleyball match on Tuesday night in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
The Tigers won the close match 25-19, 25-23, 26-24 to improve to 5-11 overall. Lees-McRae falls to 7-8.
Lees-McRae had a 10-8 lead midway through the first set before the Tigers got two points, with one coming from a kill by Delancy, to tie the score. After the score was tied again at 12, Benedict scored the next three points. The Bobcats scored a point on a kill, then the Tigers scored the next three points to build an 18-13 lead. Lees-McRae cut the lead to 21-18, then the Tigers scored the next three points, getting kills by
De'Andrae Taylor and
Jomari Jacobs. After a Bobcat point, Benedict won the set on a Lees-McRae error.
In the second set, Benedict built a 12-8 lead, but Lees-McRae rallied to tie the score. After Benedict built a 22-17 lead, the Bobcats rallied to cut the lead to 22-21. After a kill by
Zion Beckford, the Bobcats scored two more points to tie the set at 23. Benedict closed out the set with back-to-back errors by the Bobcats.
The third set was a close affair as well, with the score tied at 24 for the final time. Delancy recorded back-to-back kills to end the match.
Beckford added eight kills, while
Donovan Wilmott and Jacobs had seven kills each.
Terran Walkin had 30 assists and 11 digs for a double-double, while
Clint Forbes also had 11 digs.
Benedict is back in action on Friday, April 1 against Kentucky State at 6 p.m.
