MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Benedict baseball team took two out of three games from LeMoyne-Owen College to capture their first victories of the season over the weekend.
The Tigers split Saturday's doubleheader, winning the first game 16-12. LeMoyne-Owen scored on a bases loaded hit batsman in the bottom of the seventh to win the second game 7-6. On Sunday,
Bradon O'Connor hit his first career home run and drove in a career-high eight runs as the Tigers won 18-5.
Benedict improves to 2-13 overall and 2-6 in the SIAC. LeMoyne-Owen is 3-9 overall and 2-6 in the SIAC.
Taj Bates hit a pair of doubles and drove in three runs in the first game.
Jalen McDuffie had three hits and drove in three runs. O'Connor had three hits and drove in a pair of runs.
Benedict tied the second game 6-6 in the sixth inning on an RBI single by
Anthony Makinster. The Magicians loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh on a walk, a single, and a one-out intentional walk. The next batter was hit, scoring the winning run.
O'Connor went 3-for-4 with eight RBIs in Sunday's game, smacking a pair of bases-loaded doubles to go along with a two-run homer in the fourth, his first career home run. Bates went 2-for-4 with three RBIs.
TreVohn Jeffrey had a pair of hits and drove in two runs.
The Tigers have another conference series this weekend at Spring Hill College in Mobile, Ala.
