COLUMBIA, S.C. –
Deyonce Lewis went 3-for-3 with five RBIs to help lead the Benedict College Lady Tigers to a 13-9 victory over Savannah State in the first game of a SIAC doubleheader on Saturday at Tiger Field.
Savannah State pounded out 14 hits in the second game to take a 15-4 victory.
Benedict moves to 24-15 overall and 8-5 in the SIAC. Savannah State goes to 10-15 overall and 8-9 in the SIAC.
Lewis had an RBI single in the second inning, a two-run double in the fourth and a two-run triple in the fifth.
Briana Curney had a solo homer in the second and
Olivia Townsend had a two-run home run in the sixth inning. Townsend also picked up the pitching win, striking out eight.
In the second game, Savannah State scored four runs in the first, five runs in the second and two more in the third for an 11-0 lead. Benedict was held to four hits.
Taylor McNeal had two of Benedict's hits, including an RBI single in the fifth inning.
Jamaiyah Howard also had an RBI single in the fifth inning.
Benedict and Savannah State will meet again on Sunday at 1 p.m. for the third game in the conference series.
