COLUMBIA, S.C. – Albany State swept the Benedict College women's volleyball team 3-0 on Tuesday night in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
Albany State won the match 25-16, 25-23, 25-18 to improve to 3-3 overall and 3-0 in the SIAC. Benedict falls to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in the SIAC.
The Golden Rams pulled away from a close game in the first set, scoring seven straight points for a 23-15 lead.
Cana Smith ended the run with a kill for the Lady Tigers, but Albany State closed out the set with the final two points.
The second set was close, with Benedict holding a late 19-18 lead. Albany State scored the next three points to take a 21-19 lead and the two teams swapped points the rest of the way for a 25-23 lead.
Benedict had a 12-11 lead in the third set before another run by Albany State gave the Golden Rams an 18-13 lead and went on to take a 25-18 win.
Kaiah Green led Benedict with eight kills, while
Cana Smith added seven kills.
Benedict travels to take on Paine on Wednesday, before returning home to face Lane at 11 a.m. and LeMoyne-Owen at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
