COLUMBIA, S.C. – Benedict College rallied after dropping the first set to win the next three sets and defeat rival Allen University 3-1 in a SIAC volleyball match on Wednesday at Allen University.
Benedict won the match 23-25, 28-26, 25-16, 25-20 to improve to 8-6 overall, 5-5 in the SIAC. Allen falls to 9-7 overall, 3-4 in the SIAC.
Benedict hit .241 and recorded a season-high 57 kills in the match.
Kaiah Green led the way with a season-high 14 kills while hitting .310.
Aliyah Jones also had 14 kills and hit .355.
Cana Smith added 13 kills and
T'Yannah Lake contributed 11 kills.
Jade Hollins had a season-high 45 assists with a season-high 19 digs.
Benedict scored the final three points of the critical second set to tie the match at one set each as
Cana Smith had one solo block and one block assist.
The Lady Tigers took control early in the third set, starting off the set with the first four points and building an 11-4 lead and cruised to the set victory.
Benedict broke away from a 13-13 tie with seven straight points. Allen cut the lead to 23-19. A kill by Green closed out the match.
The scheduled match this Friday against Edward Waters has been postponed. Benedict's next home match is Tuesday, Oct. 4 against Savannah State at 6 p.m.
