FORT VALLEY, Ga. –
Asanti Price scored all 15 of his points in the second half, and
Dontavius King scored 11 of his team-high 19 points in the second half as the Benedict Tigers used a strong second half to defeat Fort Valley State 80-60 in a SIAC men's basketball game on Monday night.
Benedict had a 32-29 lead at the half, but outscored the Wildcats 48-31 in the second half. The Tigers improve to 9-7 overall and 7-4 in the SIAC. Fort Valley State falls to 8-10 overall and 6-5 in the SIAC.
Deshawn Bartley added a season-high 14 points.
Gob Gabriel chipped in 10 points.
The Tigers shot 53.2 percent (25-of-47), while holding the Wildcats to 30.5 percent shooting (18-of-59), including 22.5 percent (7-of-31) in the second half.
King opened the second half with a 3-pointer and followed that with two free throws for a 37-39 lead. The Tigers had a 60-43 lead with 8:19 remaining before the Wildcats cut the lead to 64-53. The Tigers scored the next nine points, including a 3-pointer by Price, to make it 73-53 with 3:07 on the clock.
The Tigers play at Allen University on Saturday at 3 p.m.
