COLUMBIA, S.C. – Jazmin Grayson scored a career-high 22 points, and the Benedict College Lady Tigers defeated rival Allen University 72-62 on Saturday afternoon in Allen's John Hurst Adams Gymnasium for their seventh straight victory in the series.
 
The Lady Tigers outscored the Lady Yellow Jackets 25-13 in the key fourth quarter. Grayson scored seven of her team-high 22 points in the final quarter. Taylor Christmas scored eight points and grabbed five rebounds in the fourth quarter and finished with 12 points and nine rebounds. Malayah Montgomery added 13 points, while Madison Golden chipped in with 11 points and also grabbed nine rebounds.
 
The game was tight for most of the way. Benedict had a 15-12 lead at the end of the first quarter and had a 27-26 lead at the half. Allen rallied from a seven-point third-quarter deficit to take a 49-47 lead heading into the final period.
 
A 3-pointer by Golden with 7:05 to play gave the Lady Tigers a 56-55 lead and Benedict held the lead the rest of the way. Benedict scored the next four points for a 60-55 lead. After Allen trimmed the lead to 60-58 on a 3-pointer, the Lady Tigers scored the next eight points on back-to-back 3-pointers by Christmas and a layup by Grayson for a 68-58 lead with 1:16 remaining.
 
Benedict improves to 6-11 overall and 4-7 in the SIAC with their third straight win. Allen falls to 9-7 overall and 5-6 in the SIAC.
 
The Lady Tigers travel to take on Edward Waters on Monday and wrap up their six-game road trip with a game at Savannah State on Wednesday.
