SAVANNAH, Ga. – Benedict's four-game winning streak ended on Monday, as Savannah State took a 70-51 victory in a SIAC women's basketball contest.
Benedict shot just 29.8 percent (17-of-57) and 27.3 percent (6-of-22) from 3-point range. Savannah State outscored Benedict 21-8 in the second quarter to take a 41-22 lead at the half. The Lady Tigers cut the lead to eight points, 46-38, with 3:12 left in the third quarter, but Savannah State answered with a 3-pointer and had a 56-41 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Benedict was able to get within 10 points, 60-50, with 6:51 remaining, but scored just one point the rest of the way.
Benedict falls to 7-12 overall and 5-8 in the SIAC. Savannah State improves to 14-4 overall and 10-3 in the SIAC.
Madison Golden led the Lady Tigers with a career-high 21 points.
Malayah Montgomery added 11 points.
Benedict returns home Saturday for a rematch against Savannah State at 1 p.m. to kick off a six-game home stand.
