COLUMBIA, S.C. – Benedict College held Savannah State University to just two points in the third quarter and knocked off the SIAC's top team in the East Division 74-53 in a women's basketball contest on Saturday afternoon in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
The game was tied at 38 at the half before Benedict scored the first 10 points of the third quarter. Savannah State missed all 11 field goal attempts in the third quarter. Benedict outscored Savannah State 36-15 in the second half.
Benedict improves to 8-12 overall and 6-8 in the SIAC. Savannah State falls to 14-5 overall and 10-4 in the SIAC.
Taylor Christmas led the Lady Tigers with 21 points, 13 coming in the second half.
Malayah Montgomery had a season-high 16 points in her sixth game as a Lady Tiger, while
Madison Golden also chipped in 16 points and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.
Benedict took a 53-40 lead heading into the fourth quarter and increased the lead to as many as 26 points, 73-47, after a Christmas layup with 1:49 left in the game.
The Lady Tigers are back in action on Monday, taking on Edward Waters at 5:30 p.m. in the HRC Arena.
