COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College Lady Tigers used an eight-point run late in the third quarter to take the lead, then opened up the fourth quarter with a 12-0 run to pull away from Edward Waters and take a 78-67 victory in a SIAC women's basketball game on Monday night in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
Benedict improves to 9-12 overall and 7-8 in the SIAC with their sixth win in their last seven games. Edward Waters falls to 9-12 overall and 5-10 in the SIAC.
Edward Waters had a 36-29 lead at the half and had a 49-44 lead with 3:35 left in the third quarter. The Lady Tigers scored the next eight points, taking the lead on a 3-pointer by
Jasmine Gholson, before Edward Waters added a last-second jumper to cut Benedict's lead to 52-51 heading into the fourth quarter.
Edward Waters opened the fourth quarter with a 3-pointer to retake the lead, 54-52.
Jazmin Grayson kicked off a 12-0 run with a 3-pointer.
Mahogany Randall wrapped up the run with a fast-break layup for a 64-54 lead.
Randall led Benedict with 19 points, while
Taylor Christmas added 16 points and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds. Grayson scored 15 points and
Madison Golden chipped in 11 points. Benedict had a dominating 45-27 rebounding advantage.
Benedict is back in action on Thursday with a non-conference matchup against Claflin at 5:30 p.m.
