COLUMBIA, S.C. –
Asanti Price scored a season-high 25 points and hit five 3-pointers to help lead the Benedict College Tigers to a 70-67 victory in a SIAC men's basketball contest on Monday night in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
The Tigers had a 14-point lead in the second half, but Edward Waters was able to quickly cut the lead on a pair of 3-pointers and a three-point play to make it 54-49. Benedict answered with a jumper by
Brandon Beidleman, and then Price had a short jumper and a fast-break dunk to put the Tigers back up 60-49 with 7:33 remaining.
An 8-0 run by Edward Waters on a pair of 3-pointers and a dunk cut the lead to 63-60 with 3:35 remaining. After Edward Waters made it 67-64 with 1:27 left in the game, Price scored on a dunk with 56 seconds on the clock.
Malachi McCoy hit one free throw for a 70-67 lead with 45 seconds left, and Edward Waters missed a last-second 3-pointer.
Benedict improves to 13-8 overall and 11-5 in the SIAC. Edward Waters falls to 4-16 overall and 3-12 in the SIAC.
Tim Moore and
Dontavius King added 10 points each for the Tigers. King grabbed a team high nine rebounds.
Benedict is back in action on Thursday with a non-conference matchup against Claflin at 7:30 p.m.
