COLUMBIA, S.C. – Lane College jumped to a 19-point lead in the first quarter and never looked back to take a 79-64 victory over Benedict College in their women's basketball SIAC opener on Saturday in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
Lane used a 23-3 run in the first quarter to take a 26-7 lead and held a 28-14 lead at the end of the quarter. The Lady Dragons led 43-26 at the half, and had their largest lead at the end of the third quarter, 62-38. Benedict was able to trim the deficit to 10 points, 74-64, with a 16-4 run in the fourth quarter, but that is as close as the Lady Tigers would get.
Aniyah Scales led Benedict with 13 points, while
Taylor Christmas added 12 points.
Benedict falls to 1-3 overall and 0-1 in the SIAC. The Lady Tigers take on LeMoyne-Owen on Monday night at 5:30 p.m.
