COLUMBIA, S.C. – LeMoyne-Owen outscored Benedict 10-2 to end the third quarter to take the lead for good and went on to take a 70-59 victory in a SIAC women's basketball contest on Monday night in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
The Lady Tigers had as much as a nine-point lead, 24-15, in the second quarter before the Lady Magicians rallied to cut the lead to 30-28 at the half. In the third quarter, LeMoyne-Owen took its first lead of the game, 38-37, on a pair of free throws with 3:48 remaining. Benedict's last lead came on a layup by
Aaliyah Lawrence with 3:02 remaining to make it 42-41. LeMoyne-Owen then scored 10 of the next 12 points for a 51-44 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
LeMoyne-Owen went on a 12-1 run in the fourth quarter to take their largest lead, 65-50, with two minutes left in the game.
Aniyah Scales led the Lady Tigers with 13 points.
Raven Johnson added 10 points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.
Benedict falls to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in the SIAC. LeMoyne-Owen improves to 4-2 overall and 2-0 in the SIAC.
Benedict returns to action on Saturday with a road contest at Central State University.
