COLUMBIA, S.C. – Late runs in each of the final three sets helped lift Allen University to a 3-1 victory over Benedict in a SIAC women's volleyball match on Friday night at Allen's John Hurst Adams Gymnasium.
Allen won the match 21-25, 25-17, 25-21, 25-22. Benedict falls to 16-8 overall and 10-8 in the SIAC. Allen improves to 14-13 overall and 7-11 in the SIAC.
The Lady Tigers pulled away in the first set, scoring six points in a row, to take a 22-17 lead, and closed out the set on kills by
Kaiah Green and
Krislenn Lucas, then won the set on an Allen service error.
Allen had a 14-13 lead midway in the second set before going on a 5-0 run to take the lead, then closed out the set with five of the final six points. In the second set, Benedict rallied to tie the score at 17, but Allen scored the next four points for a 21-17 lead and went on to take the 25-21 victory. Allen jumped out to an early 8-2 lead in the fourth set, but Benedict rallied to tie the score at 22. Allen scored the final three points to clinch the match.
Green led Benedict with 10 kills and a game-high four blocks, while
Jordan Gilbert had nine kills and three blocks.
Jordan Williams had 23 digs.
Benedict will close out the regular season at 9 a.m. Saturday at home against Clark Atlanta.
