COLUMBIA, S.C. – Johnson C. Smith scored eight unanswered points in the fourth quarter to pull away from a tie game and went on to take a 60-55 victory over Benedict College in a non-conference women's basketball game on Saturday in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
The game was tied at 44 with 6:08 left in the game when the Golden Bulls scored the next eight points. Benedict missed four shots from the floor and committed one turnover as Johnson C. Smith took a 52-44 lead with 4:10 remaining.
The Lady Tigers were able to cut the lead to 56-53 with 54 seconds left, but then missed three 3-pointers, and the Golden Bulls hit four free throws in the final nine seconds.
Benedict dropped its fifth straight game to fall to 1-7 overall. Johnson C. Smith moves to 2-4.
Raven Johnson led the Lady Tigers with 14 points.
Taylor Christmas added 11 points.
Benedict is back in action next Saturday with a SIAC matchup against Miles College at 1 p.m.
