COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Benedict College softball team lost a doubleheader against in-town rival Columbia International University on Tuesday.
The Rams took the first game 5-3, then scored three runs in the first inning of the second game and held on for a 4-1 victory. Benedict falls to 1-3 for the start of the season.
In the first game, Benedict scored their first run in the top of the fifth inning on a fielder's choice by Taylor McNeal, advancing Tanijah Washington home. The Lady Tigers scored again in the top of the sixth inning when T'yannah Lake hit a home run, sending Daneshia Wooten home, making it 5-3. Lake went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored on the day.
In the second game, Tre'sor Eady doubled to score Lake in the second inning for Benedict's only run.
Benedict travels to Orangeburg, S.C. to compete in the SIAC / CIAA Challenge Tournament. They will take on Fayetteville State at 10 a.m. on Saturday in their first game of the tournament.
