COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Benedict College Tigers stole a pair from Morris College today on Tiger Field. The Tigers took the first game 23-8 and the second game 9-3.
Fareed Mizelle pitched four innings in the first game, throwing ten first-pitch strikes with a total of four strikeouts.
Kenyan Conner Jr. hit a homer to left field in the bottom of the third, giving the Tigers an 8-1 lead. The Tigers continued the inning, adding three additional runs from Jamell Mitchell Jr. driving in Jamie Taveras. Jalen McDuffie drove in Jacob Hall, following with a home run from Taj Bates to drive in McDuffie, stretching the Tigers lead 12-1.
In the fourth inning, the Tigers scored a total of 11 runs, highlighted by a grand slam by Conner with the bases loaded. The Tigers led 23-6 going into the fifth inning.
Jayden Jordan pitched six innings, threw sixteen first pitch strikes with a total of three strikeouts.
Benedict stole a total of 26 bases in the first game.
In the second inning, the Tigers scored four runs. Elijah Banks hit a double to left field, driving in Jayden Jones to tie the game 1-1. The Hornets pitcher walked Kaden Hindman and Isaiah Canty back-to-back to send Conner and Banks home, and William Martinez scored on a passed ball.
Bates had another home run to left field in the fifth inning, driving Martinez home, to give the Tigers an 8-2 lead.
The Benedict College Tigers snapped their seven-game losing streak and advanced to 8-9, while the Morris College Hornets dropped to 2-7.
The Tigers are back home Saturday, March 25th for a doubleheader against Albany State University.
