COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College Lady Tigers split a softball doubleheader against SIAC leader Edward Waters University on Friday afternoon at Tiger Field.
Edward Waters blanked the Tigers in the first game of the series 4-0. The Lady Tigers would take the second game of the doubleheader, 8-7, by scoring four runs in the sixth inning.
In the first game, Edward Waters would get their first run on an RBI from Jazmi Lamug in the bottom of the third with two more coming in the fifth inning. Edward Waters would score their final run of the game on an error.
In the second game, the Lady Tigers would get their first run on a stolen base from
Taylor McNeal, before getting a spark in the second inning with a homer from
Chesney Miller. Trailing 7-4 in the bottom of the sixth inning, the Lady Tigers rallied with four runs to take the lead.
With two outs, McNeal had an RBI single.
Deyonce Lewis followed with an RBI single.
T'yannah Lake brought Lewis home with a double, and
Daneshia Wooten brought home the go-ahead run with a single to center field.
The Lady Tigers, now 13-18 overall and 6-8 in the SIAC, will finish the three-game series on Saturday, April 1 at 1 p.m. Edward Waters is now 25-5 overall and 11-3 in the SIAC. Keep up with Benedict College athletics social media accounts for any game or schedule updates.
