COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College Lady Tigers split a softball doubleheader against Harris-Stowe University on Monday at Tiger Field in their home opener.
 
Benedict scored a season-high 30 runs in the first game to win 30-7 in five innings. Harris-Stowe won the second game of the doubleheader, 7-6.
 
In the first game, the Lady Tigers jumped out to an early lead, scoring 10 runs in the first inning. 
T'yannah Lake led the offensive attack with seven RBIs, including a two-run homer in the first inning. 
Deyonce Lewis went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and four runs scored. 
Tanijah Washington went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and four runs scored. 
Taylor McNeal also contributed with four stolen bases. The Lady Tigers capitalized off of four Hornet fielding errors.
 
Olivia Townsend picked up the pitching win, with two strikeouts and no hits.
 
In the second game, Harris-Stowe rallied with three runs in the top of the seventh to take the game. Benedict had a 6-0 lead after the first two innings. The Lady Tigers had four hits in the first two innings, but then were held to just two hits the rest of the way. Lake once again led the attack, hitting a pair of home runs and driving in four runs. McNeal stole another four bases.
 
The Lady Tigers, now 3-12 on the season, are scheduled for a trip to Mobile, Alabama for the SIAC Crossover, beginning Saturday. Keep up with Benedict College athletics social media accounts for any game or schedule updates.
