SUMTER, S.C. – The Benedict Tigers scored three runs in the fifth inning to take the lead, then added two more in the seventh and held off a late Morris rally to take an 8-6 victory in a non-conference baseball game on Tuesday.
Morris rallied from a 4-1 deficit to take a 9-5 victory in the second game of the doubleheader.
Benedict goes to 11-15 on the season.
Isaiah Canty had a double and a triple, scored three runs and drove in one in the first game.
Justin Murray had two hits and an RBI.
Kaden Hindman came on in relief and pitched 3.1 innings and did not allow a hit to pick up the win on the mound.
In the second game, the Tigers had a 4-1 lead after three innings. Morris scored two runs in the fourth, then took the lead with three runs in the fifth inning. Benedict tied the game at 6-6 in the top of the sixth, but Morris added three more runs in the bottom of the sixth. Benedict had the bases loaded in the top of the seventh with one out, but couldn't push a run across.
Jalen McDuffie went 2-for-4 and drove in two runs.
Jamell Mitchell Jr. went 2-for-2 and drove in one run.
The Tigers travel to Tuskegee for a three-game SIAC series beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday.
