SAVANNAH, Ga. –
Tanijah Washington went 5-for-5 with five RBIs, and
Olivia Townsend also drove in five runs as the Benedict softball team crushed Savannah State 26-3 in the second game of a SIAC softball doubleheader on Saturday.
Savannah State scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to rally past Benedict in the first game for a 14-11 victory.
Benedict goes to 14-21 overall and 7-8 in the SIAC. Savannah State goes to 7-17 overall and 6-12 in the SIAC.
The Lady Tigers scored three runs in the first inning of the second game, then added eight more in the second for an 11-1 lead. They increased the lead to 13-1 with two runs in the fourth. Benedict sent 18 players to the plate in the fifth inning, scoring 13 runs on 13 hits and one Savannah State error. Townsend had a two-run homer, and
T'yannah Lake drove in three runs with a double.
In the first game, the Lady Tigers scored three runs in the first and scored seven in the second, and added another run in the third for an 11-5 lead. Savannah State scored three runs in the fourth to cut the lead to 11-8. Savannah State rallied with six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to rally for the win.
Tre'sor Eady went 4-for-4. Townsend, Washington and
Chesney Miller all drove in two runs.
Benedict and Savannah State will play the third game in the series on Sunday at 1 p.m.
