COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Benedict baseball team took a doubleheader victory against Morehouse College on Sunday afternoon at Tiger Field, winning by scores of 14-4 and 21-14.

The Tigers swept Sunday's first game, winning the first game 14-4. Justin Murray doubled to right field with bases loaded in the bottom of the first. The Tigers entered the top of the second inning with a 6-0 lead after Murray scored on an error and William Martinez helped drive in two runs. The Tigers then scored seven more runs in the bottom of the second. Taj Bates drove in Jamell Mitchell Jr., then Jalen McDuffie drove in Bates, followed by a home run from Isaiah Canty to stretch the Tigers lead to 11-0.

Jayden Jordan pitched three innings for the Tigers allowing three runs while also striking out three. 

Benedict scored 21 runs in the second game, winning 21-14. The Tigers began to pull away in the bottom of the third to take an 11-6 lead. Kenyan Conner Jr. and Murray both were hit by pitches, while Morehouse pitcher walked Canty, Jones, and William Martinez.

In the bottom of the fourth, Bates and Murray hit back to back home runs, while Bates drove in two runs and Jones drove in one. Benedict entered the fifth inning with a 16-7 lead. The Tigers scored their last run in the bottom of the fifth inning with an RBI by Mitchell. The Tigers managed to hold off Morehouse after they scored four runs in a row in the sixth, following two more runs in the seventh. 

Canty went 3-for-3 to lead the Tigers in hits. 

Benedict improves to 10-11 overall and 6-2 in the SIAC. 

The Tigers play Morehouse for the final game in the three-game SIAC series on Monday at 11 a.m. on Tiger Field.
