ATLANTA, Ga. - The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) is thrilled to announce the recipient of the prestigious Commissioner's Cups for the 2022-23 year. After a fiercely competitive season, Benedict College has emerged as the victorious institution, earning this esteemed honor for their exceptional athletic achievements across multiple sports.

Benedict College swept both the men's and women's trophies for the second year in a row, and the fourth time in school history. All told, Benedict has won nine of the 16 trophies since the inception of the Commissioner's Cup Award in 2014.

"Congratulations to Benedict College on winning this year's SIAC Commissioner's Cup ascending to the pinnacle of athletic excellence," said SIAC Commissioner Anthony Holloman. "This triumph is a testament to the unwavering commitment of the student-athletes, coaches, and the entire BC community, whose relentless pursuit of greatness has shone brightly on the athletic stage. The SIAC extends its heartfelt congratulations to Benedict, a true embodiment of sporting prowess, inspiring generations to come with their remarkable achievements."

The Commissioner's Cup is a highly coveted award presented annually to the SIAC member institution that exhibits outstanding athletic performance and overall excellence throughout the academic year. It represents the culmination of dedication, perseverance, and athletic prowess demonstrated by the university's student-athletes, coaches, and support staff.

Benedict College showcased unparalleled commitment, skill, and teamwork across various sports, earning significant accolades throughout the season. Their remarkable achievements across various sports exemplify the university's commitment to athletic excellence and showcase the talent and determination of their student-athletes.

The recipient of the Commissioner's Cup is based on a point system, reflecting the place of finish of each team in conference play. The coveted SIAC Commissioner's Cup is presented to the athletic department within the conference that has excelled in both men's and women's sports. A scoring system of 10 points for conference titles, seven for runner-up championship finishes, and four for third-place championship finishes is used to determine the all-sports standings.

Benedict paced both men's and women's competition during the 2022-23 season finishing with five conference titles, two runner-up titles, and one third-place finish. The Tigers claimed their championship titles in football, women's cross country, women's tennis, and men's and women's track and field. They finished as men's cross country and men's basketball runners-up and third place in men's tennis.

The Commissioner's Cup serves as a testament to the unwavering spirit of competition and sportsmanship that defines the SIAC.
